goodbye

Science Year in Scotland - as a special initiative - came to a close at the end of December 2002. There was a wonderful Celebration of Science Year, held at the Royal Society of Edinburgh in early December, when Cathy Jamieson, the Minister for Education & Young People, met and talked to just some of the young people from schools throughout Scotland about the special projects and activities they had been involved in during Science Year. They had produced displays specially for the event, some demonstrated experiments while others proudly showed off their inventions. All the adults were very impressed with the confidence and enthusiasm with which the young people talked about their work, what they had learned and the fun they had had. The event was rounded off with a fantastic Bubble Show.

It's been a busy and exciting year for everyone involved and, as the Science Year coordinating team stands down, the SETPOINT Scotland network takes over the reins to continue the good work of running events and activities aimed at enthusing and firing the imagination of all, and especially young people. Science is all around us and, though not everyone wants to be an engineer or a scientist, we all need to recognise that science and technology are an integral part of our everyday life.
