The risks of medical treatment abroad
There has been increased growth over the last 10 years in cosmetic surgery abroad due to the price difference.
Many companies are offering all-inclusive vacation packages that include cosmetic surgery. These are showing up everywhere. These packages offer highly trained medical staff and private hospital.
Insurance does not cover elective cosmetic procedures. Price is the major selling point for cosmetic surgery abroad. As the procedure is much cheaper over international borders. The entire surgery plus vacation package cost much less than just the surgery itself in many places.
Patients need to consider the possible risks associated with surgery abroad, so patients need to consider this carefully. There is always the risk of not getting the same quality of care that you would get at home. So do your research before deciding on having your surgery done abroad. Research the facility as well as the medical staff if at all possible.
Patients still need to remember that they are having surgery. Even though this is marketed as a vacation package the last thing someone needs to do is act like they are on vacation after surgery. To heal properly and avoid possible complications even when it comes to things like dentistry abroad a person should not swim, drink alcohol, sunbathe, exercise or take tours. Right after surgery it is recommended to just rest and relax. So there should not be any plans of sunbathing on the beach or hiking or swimming right after you have had surgery. Also long flights after surgery is not recommended due to an increased risk of blood clots. So it is best if you have cosmetic surgery abroad that you plan to spend a few days there, before getting on a plane for a long flight back home.
